Maximizing Storage in Small Bathrooms
Seattle is full of charming bungalows and condos with... less than charmingly sized bathrooms. But small square footage doesn't mean you have to sacrifice storage or style. In fact, small bathrooms often force the most creative design solutions.
1. Go Vertical with Recessed Niches
In a small shower, bulky hanging caddies take up valuable elbow room. We love installing recessed niches between the wall studs. They provide a flush, sleek storage spot for shampoos and soaps without encroaching on your shower space.
2. Floating Vanities
A vanity that sits on the floor can make a small room feel heavy and crowded. A floating (wall-mounted) vanity exposes the floor underneath, tricking the eye into seeing more floor space. Plus, you can tuck baskets underneath for extra towel storage.
3. Medicine Cabinets are Back (and Beautiful)
Forget the rusty metal boxes of the past. Modern recessed medicine cabinets are sleek, often frameless, and offer crucial eye-level storage for toiletries. Some even come with integrated lighting and electrical outlets inside.
4. Over-the-Toilet Storage Built-ins
The space above the toilet is the most underutilized real estate in a bathroom. Instead of a wobbly wire rack, consider custom built-in shelving or a cabinet that matches your vanity. It looks intentional and high-end while swallowing up towels and toilet paper.
5. Use the Door
Don't forget the back of the door! heavy-duty hooks are perfect for towels and robes. In really tight spaces, we've even modified doors to slide (barn style or pocket doors) to eliminate the swing radius entirely.
Tired of a cluttered bathroom? Let's sketch out a plan to maximize every inch of your space.
